De Pree had been employed as a clerk at the company since 1909 when it first opened its doors. He recognised his father-in-law’s integrity and decided to rename the business after him.
Herman Miller‘s name had become synonymous with “modern” furniture by the mid-twentieth century.
The company created office furniture pieces that would become industrial design classics. In collaboration with famed designers George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames.
